John Thacker

John Thacker (1850-1898) opened a small grocer's shop in Leicester in 1882, later specialising in supplying the shoe trade with 'finishings' - principally polishing equipment used in the last stage of shoe making. By the end of the Victorian era, he had built up one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of these products in England.

After the death of the founder, John Thacker's business continued to grow, becoming a limited company in 1914.
