The collection consists of original documents and photographs, some presented here for the first time.

Many of these are fading or crumbling and can be difficult to identify with any confidence. However, some of them may well represent the only remaining evidence of a person's existence outside the official records and digitisation preserves them for another generation.

This site is dedicated to my father, John Thacker, 1920-1996 – a very congenial companion, and the last person in western civilisation (as far as I am aware) to speak of 'carpet slippers' in normal conversation.
